Masks are still an essential item for citizens to travel. Most of the materials used in the production of disposable masks circulating on the market are not completely degradable. The main reason is that the core meltblown material cannot be completely degraded.  Recently, one company has successfully developed a new type of meltblown material by using polylactic acid, a degradable plastic.

With the operation of the machine, the first biodegradable mask left the assembly line. This is also the first environmental protection mask in China. It feels like a normal one-time performance mask, comfortable and breathable.  The staff said that when environmental protection masks are thrown into dry garbage and incinerated, they will not release toxic gases such as nitrides and sulfides.  Even if it is buried in the ground, it will degrade into carbon dioxide and water within 5 years.

In the company's R&D center, researchers are conducting filtration tests on degradable meltblown materials. After a series of tests, the filtration efficiency of the materials is as high as 99.8%, reaching the highest filtration value of ordinary meltblown materials.  In addition to masks, this meltblown material can also be used in products in the fields of daily necessities, automobiles, and medical treatment.

According to reports, PLA polylactic acid, the raw material of the degradable meltblown material, has a white granular shape.  In order to improve its testing capabilities, the R&D center has purchased more than 5 million yuan in testing equipment for this purpose.  The cost of biodegradable materials is relatively high, and for the company at this stage, there is almost no economic benefit.  The company's research and development of new biodegradable materials also hopes to stimulate and drive the entire biodegradable industry, which will be beneficial to China's future  Social development will greatly help.
